A Thousand Dozen For US Jockey Baze
In an amazing feat, Hall Of Fame jockey Russell Baze has created history by becoming the first North American hoop to ride 12,000 winners, reports horseracingnation.com. The 54-year-old achieved the remarkable feat winning the last race of the day aboard 4YO mare Handful of Pearls (Bertrando-River of Tears, by Synastry), at the Alameda County Fair at Pleasanton, California. But Baze was made to wait for his milestone with Handful Of Pearls eventually getting a photo-finish verdict over fellow 4YO mare Here It Tiz. "It was pretty cool to do it this way, especially when I thought he might of gotten me, but my filly extended her head," stated Baze.
