SAf KZN Sale: Aggregate Up 54%

Thursday, 11th July 2013

The recently completed KZN Yearling Sale in South Africa has ended with the aggregate and average significantly up on last year, reports tba.co.za. The two-day sale recorded an aggregate of R20,270,000, an impressive 54 per cent increase on the previous year's total of R13,135,000. The average and median prices were also up from the previous year. The average of R90,089 was an improvement of 31 per cent (R68,770), while the median of R60,000 was up 20 per cent from 2012 (R50,000). The sale topper was lot 58, a colt by leading sire Silvano from the consignment of Daytona Stud which sold for R650,000. Named Night Shadow, the colt is from the Al Mufti mare Saratoga Shadow and is a three-quarter brother to Gr1 Durban July winner Bold Silvano. Bloodstock South Africa's CEO Tom Callaghan commented, "We had a much stronger catalogue this year, with many of the country's top sires well represented, and the sale also benefitted from the support of many of the Cape breeders. This sale continues to grow in stature, and its positioning in relation to [the Gr1 Durban] July is a stroke of genius."
