Distance Likely Too Sharp For Pop Culture

Friday, 12th July 2013

Talented WA staying mare Pop Culture (Blackfriars-Georgia's Storm, by Metal Storm) makes a surprise return over 5-furlongs in the $80,000 Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) at Belmont tomorrow. The winner of the Gr3 Western Australian Oaks (2400m), Listed WATC St Leger (2100m) & Listed Ascot Gold Cup, has never resumed over a distance shorter than 1200m but does have the ability to sprint well fresh as evidenced by her first-up success over that trip at her 4th career start. But despite a class edge over her rivals, a 1000m dash will be a different proposition and she will require plenty of speed on up front so she can utilise her brilliant finishing burst to winning effect. Pop Culture's main dangers appear to be stakes winners Zester, Trustee Brown & the promising Kalahaar.
