Mawingo Impresses In Singapore Debut

Monday, 15th July 2013

Also at Kranji in Singapore, the former Australian-campaigned 5YO entire Mawingo (Tertullian-Montfleur, by Sadler's Wells) showed his class in scoring by 1.5-lengths for new trainer Michael Freedman in the S$125,000 Hello Portugal Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 8YO gelding Keep Away (Air Jihad-Laurel Alice, by Biwa Hayahide) & 6YO gelding Martincho Cat (Easing Along-La Martina, by Shy Tom). The Australian Bloodstock-owned Mawingo took his record to 5 wins (also including the Gr1 Doomben Cup) & 7 placings (including the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes behind All Too Hard) from 20 starts. Singapore Turf Club's Craig Brennan reports trainer Michael Freedman was pleased with Mawingo's performance. "On that win today he looks like a great pick-up for the stable," Freedman commented post-race. "He looked a little ring-rusty and he's going to get a lot of benefit from the run as he hadn't raced for a while... We'll see how he pulls-up from today's win but I'd say we'll look at the (Gr3) Chairman's Trophy (1800m) in a fortnight's time."
