Oliver Returns From Serving Ban
Champion Australian jockey Damien Oliver rode his first piece of trackwork yesterday morning since serving an 8-month ban for betting on a rival horse in 2010. He was disqualified from riding last November for 8-months and suspended for a further two. Oliver put last year's Gr1 Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel through her paces before fronting the media. "I'm looking forward to getting back and renewing some friendships and trying to win back some support," he stated. "I've got a lot of bridges to mend… and hopefully I can do that." Oliver will return to race riding on September 13 after serving the remaining two months of his suspension.
