Champion Mare Snow Fairy Retired

Wednesday, 17th July 2013

Despite looking to be back in outstanding form, 6YO mare Snow Fairy has been retired overnight in the UK after an old injury was aggravated, reports racingpost.com. Winner of her final start, the Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes last year where she defeated Nathaniel and St Nicholas Abbey, Snow Fairy had a fairytale final Gr1 hat-trick torn-up when French officials disqualified her win in the Gr1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville, with the victory subsequently taken away after failing a test for a banned substance (an anti-inflammatory). The mighty mare's trainer Ed Dunlop lamented in a statement: "It is with much sadness that a decision was made this morning to retire Snow Fairy... Unfortunately after a routine piece of fast work today she was found to have re-injured her near fore tendon, which has caused her problems in the last two years." Winner of 6 Gr1 races in Japan, Hong Hong, England & Ireland, Snow Fairy retires with an overall record of 8 wins & 8 placings from 21 starts for £4,004,374 earnings. Watch her final victory below.
