Ossenhagen Joins Smerdon Stable

Wednesday, 17th July 2013

Exciting 3YO Ossenhagen (Ad Valorem-Carnet du Bal, by Carnegie) has joined the stable of Caulfield trainer Robert Smerdon after plans to sell him to Hong Kong fell through, reports NZ Racing Desk. The highly promising son of Ad Valorem was due to continue his racing career overseas but his prospective owners exercised their right to withdraw their sizeable offer when he failed to pass a vet examination. Ossenhagen marked himself as smart galloper with a bright future when winning his two most recent outings, at Geelong & Bendigo, by 6-lengths & 4.5-lengths respectively. Smerdon confirmed Ossenhagen had sustained a minor laceration that had delayed his return, but stated he was still on track for a spring campaign. "It was only a minor injury, superficial, but we've still got to get the all clear," explained Smerdon. "As soon as we get that we'll start working him."
