Back-To-Back UK Championships A Chance For Germany

Thursday, 18th July 2013

Germany will be bidding for consecutive victories in the Gr1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2400m) at Ascot on July 27 when talented 4YO Novellist lines up for trainer Andreas Wohler, reports racingpost.com. Wohler won last year's King George with Germany's outstanding Arc heroine Danedream, who edged out Nathaniel by a nose, and is hoping to replicate that feat with the promising Novellist (Monsun-Night Lagoon, by Lagunas). Thus far, the Irish-bred but German-owned Novellist has recorded 7 wins from just 9 starts, including the Gr1 Premio del Jockey Club & Gr1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in France. According to Wohler, Novellist has always shown significant potential and is ready to deliver in his biggest test to date. "Novellist is on target for the King George. He came out of Saint-Cloud really well and is in good form," the trainer stated. "We have always believed in the horse and he is proving it now… the statistics would say that it is not possible but it would be a dream to have back-to-back German winners of the contest." The King George has attracted a high class field with Cirrus de Aigles, Mount Athos, Trading Leather, St Nicholas Abbey, Red Cadeaux & Battle Of Marengo among gallopers taking part.
