Qatar Flexes Muscles At Ascot Sale
At the Brightwells July Sale at Ascot on Tuesday, bloodstock agent Conrad Allen continued the push into the global thoroughbred market of emerging racing power Qatar when taking home the top three lots for a client from the Gulf state, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. Allen's three buys, from the consignment of Darley, were the day's top seller, The Smart One (Exceed and Excel-Bareilly, by Lyphard) for £14,000, a 2YO half-brother to Gr2 winner Revenue; 2YO filly Rose Gloria (Haatef-Western Sky, by Barathea) for £13,000, & 3YO gelding Lightning Launch (Kheleyf-Launch Time, by Relaunch), a half-brother to Gr2 winner Halicarnassus, for £11,500. "They're all for Osama Al-Dhafea," stated Allen, whose client is based in the Qatar capital of Doha. "We weren't able to fill our order last week [at Tattersalls] so carried on shopping today. They're just the type for racing in Qatar - they're quite handy and fitted the bill on form and conformation." All sale indicators were up on last year's figures, with the 92 lots selling for an aggregate of £250,170, up 50 per cent, and the average and median rising to £2,719 & £1,700, respectively.
