Sebring Blueblood Colt Bolts Home On Debut

Thursday, 18th July 2013

A brilliant debut at yesterday's Werribee meeting in Victoria has set tongues wagging as racing heads towards a new season in two weeks, followed by the traditional lead-up towards the Spring Carnival. Trained by Mick Price, 2YO colt Longma (Sebring-Yes She Can Cancan, by Canny Lad) was having his first start over the 1100m trip and cleared in the heavy conditions by 8-lengths with rivals floundering in his wake. The run had jockey Craig Newitt gushing: "I barely got out of neutral... He's shown us plenty at home, obviously the big query was the track today but he took care of that. He just towed me through it." A $125,000 weanling consigned by Middlebrook Valley Lodge at the 2011 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, Longma is a three-quarter brother to Gr1 winner Gimmethegreenlight and a half-brother to Gr1 winner Ofcourseican, suggesting there's plenty of upside to Longma who is being aimed towards the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas in the Spring.
