Lord Sherwood Hits Target On Debut

Friday, 19th July 2013

Well-related 2YO colt Lord Sherwood (Encosta de Lago-Lady Marion, by Danehill) impressed when winning on debut in the De Bortoli Wines Maiden Handicap (1200m) at Cranbourne in Victoria yesterday. The Mick Price-trained juvenile is a full-brother to Gr2 Blamey Stakes winner Largo Lad, by Encosta de Lago from the multiple group-winning Danehill mare Lady Marion. Lord Sherwood crossed from his wide barrier to sit just off the lead before sprinting clear at the 200m to score comfortably by 1-length from Export Quality (Elusive Quality-Export Gold, by Export Price) & Thanks A Million (Ad Valorem-Persiflage, by Lonhro). Lord Sherwood was purchased for NZ$150,000 at the 2012 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Curraghmore Stud. Price commented post-race that Lord Sherwood would develop into a lovely 3YO, nominating the Caulfield Guineas as a likely spring target. Interestingly, Lord Sherwood shares the same cross that produced recently announced Armidale Stud freshman Needs Further (Encosta de Lago-Crowned Glory, by Danehill).
