Royal Delta Could Redeem Herself In Gr1 Delaware Handicap

Friday, 19th July 2013

Champion US mare Royal Delta (Empire Maker-Delta Princess, by A.P. Indy) will bid to become the 6th two-time winner of the Gr1 Delaware Handicap (9 furlongs) at Delaware Park this weekend after capturing the event last year, reports bloodhorse.com. That victory was part of Royal Delta's brilliant 2012 championship season which saw her become just the second mare in history to win back-to-back Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classics. But first the 5YO daughter of Mr Prospector line stallion Empire Maker (standing at Juddmonte Farm) must bounce back from her last start defeat in the Gr2 Fleur de Lis at Churchill Downs. Royal Delta will have 5 possible rivals in tomorrow's summer classic for fillies and mares, namely She's All In, Summer Applause, Authenticity, And Why Not & Centring. According to Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, the 5-time Gr1 winner is shaping nicely ahead of her latest assignment. "She is doing very well… we could not ask for her to be doing any better."
