Wattle Brae Stud Secures Raheeb For Stud
In local breeding news, Wattle Brae Stud has pulled-off one of the coups of the 2013 Queensland breeding season by adding Raheeb (Royal Academy-Gatana, by Marauding) to the Turkington family's stallion roster. Raheeb (a $90,000 yearling consigned by Vinery Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) was raced by Patinack Farm before being retired to their Hunter Valley headquarters in 2010. Last season Patinack Farm stood the chestnut entire at its Queensland base and the reception breeders in the state gave Raheeb persuaded the operation's management team to look for a long-term option, with Patinack Farm stud manager Ben Lawrence explaining: "There was a lot of interest from farms wishing to stand this stallion, but Wattle Brae Stud stood out among the contenders." Favourite for the Gr1 Toorak Handicap in 2009 where he finished a close 4th, Raheeb is a full-brother to the dam of reigning Australian champion sire Fastnet Rock. By sire of sires, Royal Academy, Gr3 Cameron Handicap winner Raheeb has covered 248 mares since entering stud duties, and will stand his first season at Wattle Brae Stud for $7,700.
