Burst Daughter On Debut At Kembla
If ever a horse was bred to be a juvenile star, it is the Darby Racing-owned filly Emerge which will make her debut in the opening race at Kembla Grange today. Emerge is by Golden Slipper winning sire Stratum from the triple Gr1 winning Marauding mare Burst, winner of Sydney's 2YO Triple Crown. The brilliantly precocious Burst was unstoppable during her juvenile season clean sweeping the Gr1 Golden Slipper, Gr1 Sires' Produce Stakes & Gr1 Champagne Stakes in 1992. But unlike many 2YO champions who peak as youngsters, Burst raced on with distinction during her 3YO & 4YO seasons including wins in the Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes, Gr2 Apollo Stakes (beating Telesto) & placings in the Phar Lap Stakes, Chipping Norton Stakes & Australia Stakes. She also showed her versatility by stretching out to distances beyond the realm of most speedy 2YOs, with her 3rd to Slight Chance in the VRC Oaks a prime example. Emerge was a $125,000 purchase by Darby Bloodstock at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is trained by the same man who guided Burst's career, Clarry Conners.
