Half-Sister To US Sprint Champ Scores On Debut

Tuesday, 23rd July 2013

The Bob Baffert-trained 3YO filly Socialbug (Curlin-Candytuft, by Dehere), a half-sister to champion sprinter Midnight Lute, scored an impressive debut victory at Del Mar in the US on Sunday, reports thoroughbreddailynews.com. Despite racing greenly, the daughter of US Horse Of The Year Curlin ran out an easy 2.75-lengths winner of a 3YO+ maiden (6 furlongs) over fellow fillies Fanticola (Silent Name-Catalina Cat, by Tabasco Cat) & Wasted At Midnight (Midnight Lute-Wasted Wisdom, by Gold Fever). Her elder sibling, Midnight Lute (Real Quiet-Candytuft, by Dehere), was a brilliant sprinter who won 6 of his 13 starts for US$2,690,600 prize money. His greatest accomplishment was becoming the first horse in history to win the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Sprint twice (2007 & 2008), setting the dual records of fastest time and biggest winning margin. His 3rd Gr1 success was in the Forego Stakes at Saratoga. The son of Real Quiet retired in 2008 to stand at Hill 'n' Dale in Kentucky where he currently commands a fee of US$20,000.
