Nationhood Sires First Winner

Thursday, 25th July 2013

In US breeding news, Nationhood (Cherokee Run-Elhasna, by Danzig), the obscure 11YO US stallion whose first crop has only just hit the track has sired his first winner, reports drf.com. His 2YO daughter Zafari Nation won a maiden claiming race at Emerald Downs to register the milestone for her sire that stands at Blue Ribbon Farm in Washington. Nationhood won 8 of his 22 starts, including 4 stakes races, before retiring to stud in 2008. It is not known why he did not serve his first book, which yielded 15 foals, until 2011. Despite this pedestrian start to his stud career, Nationhood can at least boast an interesting pedigree. By the successful stallion Cherokee Run (pensioned), Nationhood's second dam is champion sprinter Gold Beauty, making his dam, Elhasna, a full-sister to Danzig's multiple Gr1-winning sprinter and sire Dayjur.
