Palace Malice Thriving Ahead Of Jim Dandy

Friday, 26th July 2013

Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice (Curlin-Palace Rumor, by Royal Anthem) will use this weekend's Gr2 Jim Dandy Stakes (9 furlongs) at Saratoga as a stepping stone to the Gr1 Travers Stakes next month, reports bloodhorse.com. The 3YO son of North America's highest ever stakes earner Curlin will bid to become trainer Todd Pletcher's 6th winner of the Jim Dandy following the victories of Graeme Hall (2000), Strong Hope (2003), Flower Alley (2005) & Stay Thirsty (2011). The Travers, on August 24, promises to bring together the winners of all three legs of the 3YO Triple Crown, with Palace Malice likely to be joined by Orb (Kentucky Derby) & Oxbow (Preakness Stakes). Pletcher believes Palace Malice has come on in leaps and bounds since his Belmont success. "I think he's blossomed out of it," remarked Pletcher. "He's a May foal, so he's starting to come into his own. He's gained weight, and he's gotten stronger… if anything, I think the Derby and the Belmont have propelled him forward."
