Star Kiwi Mares On Course For Spring

Monday, 29th July 2013

The Roger James-trained mares Silent Achiever (O'Reilly-Winning Spree, by Zabeel) & Full Of Spirit (Flying Spur-Imposingly, by Zabeel) are among an impressive list of nominations for the three Gr1 events at the upcoming Hawke's Bay Spring Carnival in NZ, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Cambridge-based horseman explained that while Full Of Spirit would be a definite participant, Gr1 winner Silent Achiever's nomination was purely a contingency as she is being set for yet another Australian spring campaign. "We've nominated Silent Achiever mainly as a back-up in case her Melbourne campaign has to be called off for some reason," stated James. "At this stage she won't be seen in New Zealand this spring as we will kick her campaign off in Melbourne in about five weeks time. I'm leaning toward starting her at Caulfield in the last week of August or at Flemington the following week." James confirmed that stable mate and Gr3 Adrian Knox winner Full Of Spirit would campaign locally with a tilt at the Hawke's Bay triple crown on her agenda. "We do have high hopes for Full Of Spirit as she was competitive in Melbourne last spring and we have decided to concentrate her on Hastings this year as opposed to heading back across the Tasman."
