Nassau Stakes Off Radar For The Fugue

Tuesday, 30th July 2013

High profile UK mare The Fugue (Dansili-Twyla Tharp, by Sadler's Wells) will not line up to defend her title in the Gr1 Nassau Stakes (10 furlongs) at Goodwood this Saturday, reports turftrax.com. Trainer John Gosden has ruled out a start for the Lord Lloyd-Webber-owned 4YO believing the race has arrived too soon following her poor run in the Coral Eclipse at Sandown three weeks ago. "I was very confident about her going into the race [Coral Eclipse], her scope was perfect - then on the day she ran distressed, was full of mucus and everything," explained Gosden. "I backed right off her and she is terribly well now and back cantering, but we're not rushing her back for the Nassau which she won last year…when they've run like that you have to give them time." Gosden nominated the Yorkshire Oaks and/or the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville as The Fugue's likely next assignments.
