BREAKING NEWS: Northern Meteor Dies From Colic

In news that has shocked the thoroughbred community, rising stallion star Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago-Explosive, by Fappiano), whose first crop 2YOs have left an indelible mark in 2012-13, has died from colic overnight, reports racingnetwork.com.au. The sire of 18 individual juvenile winners, including Gr1 winner Romantic Touch, of 27 races was struck down with the illness around 9pm last night, and Widden Stud principal Anthony Thompson stated that, "Despite the very best of veterinary care, he died shortly after..." A Gr1-winning, Gr1-placed sprinter, Northern Meteor was owned and raced by Eduardo Cojuangco's Gooree Stud.
