Canadian HOTY Wins Prince Of Wales Stakes
Canada's reigning Horse Of The Year Uncaptured (Lion Heart-Captivating, by Arch) posted his first victory of the season when winning Tuesday's Prince Of Wales Stakes, the 2nd leg of the Canadian triple crown, at Fort Erie in Ontario, reports drf.com. The 3YO colt, who was also crowned champion male juvenile last year, rallied bravely in the straight to score by 1-length for trainer Mark Casse over 3YO gelding River Seven (Johannesburg-Sans Souci Island, by Chester House) & fellow 3YO colt Niigon's Glory (Niigon-Pipers Honour, by Honour and Glory). Winning jockey Miguel Mena explained that once Uncaptured found his stride, the race was as good as over. "I rode him like the good horse he is," commented Mena. "At the half-mile pole, the minute he grabbed the bit, I knew it was over. I turned him loose, and he won easy." Uncaptured took his record to 7 wins (including the Gr2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes & Gr3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs) from 12 starts for C$952,306 earnings.
