O'Reilly Dominates New Zealand Stallion Awards

Thursday, 1st August 2013

Waikato Stud's champion sire O'Reilly (Last Tycoon-Courtza, by Pompeii Court) has achieved a milestone that is unprecedented in the history of New Zealand racing by clean sweeping the national Stallion Awards for 2012-13. O'Reilly has won the Grosvenor (domestic championship), Dewar (combined New Zealand and Australian progeny stake earnings) and Centaine (NZ-conceived progeny world-wide) awards. In addition to being the leading sire by earnings ($2,245,347), O'Reilly came out on top with most individual winners (69), wins (122), and stakes winners (16). Waikato Stud's Mark Chittick was obviously delighted with O'Reilly's accomplishments this season. "We're so proud of him becoming the first stallion in history to achieve this clean sweep of all three of New Zealand's major awards…it takes an incredible stallion to have accomplished what he has."
