Fort Larned Fancied For US Gr1 Whitney
Defending champion Fort Larned (E Dubai-Arlucea, by Broad Brush) has drawn favourably in barrier three for Saturday's 86th renewal of the US$750,000 Gr1 Whitney Invitational Handicap (9 furlongs) at Saratoga, reports drf.com. Should Fort Larned prove successful in his title defence, he will become the first horse since Discovery in 1936 to win back-to-back Whitneys. The only other galloper to win multiple Whitneys was Commentator who tasted success in 2005 & 2008. Fort Larned comes into the race in outstanding form having blitzed his rivals by 6.25-lengths in the Gr1 Stephen Foster Handicap in June, his first outing since taking last November's Breeders' Cup Classic. The three-time Gr1 winner has 9 wins from 22 starts for over US$4 million in prize money.
