South Africa's KZN Boosted By New Sires

Friday, 2nd August 2013

KwaZulu-Natal breeders in South Africa have boosted their stallion ranks with the acquisition of several well-credentialed sires, reports goldcircle.co.za. Bush Hill Stud unveiled their new sire Irish Flame at Stallion Day last weekend along with the stud's perennial KZN Champion Kahal, Torreador and the promising pair Curved Ball and King's Chapel. KZN's future has also been enhanced by the import of UK stallions Crusade and Byword, who will stand at Scott Brothers and Middlefield Stud respectively. Crusade (Mr Greeley-La Traviata, by Johannesburg) won the Gr1 Middle Park Stakes over six furlongs as a 2YO while Byword (Peintre Celebre-Binche, by Woodman) defeated four-time Gr1 winner Twice Over in the Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2010, a race won by horses such as Bosra Sham, Dubai Millenium, Fantastic Light, Ouija Board, Duke Of Marmalade and So You Think. Bush Hill's Irish Flame (Dynasty-Clock the Rock, by Flaming Rock) adds further value to the KZN stallion band as a former Equus Horse Of The Year. Irish Flame will be remembered chiefly for ending the 2010 triple crown dreams of Pierre Jourdan when winning the Gr1 SAf Derby by 9.5-lengths at Turffontein.
