Tassie Turnover Boosts Prizemoney Allocation

Friday, 2nd August 2013

Wagering turnover on Tasmanian racing grew by $28 million to $403.7 million last financial year, up 7.7 per cent from the previous year. Dr Eliot Forbes, Tasracing chief executive, stated that the Tasmanian racing industry would receive $22.3 million in funding from Tasracing in 2013/14 due to the strong wagering growth. Under the tri-code allocation model which recognises each code's contribution to wagering performance, thoroughbreds will receive $12.2 million, harness $5.8 million and greyhounds $4.1 million. Dr Forbes explained Tasracing was responsible for the commercial performance of the Tasmanian racing industry, and growing wagering turnover was a key corporate goal. "These results are tangible evidence that the commercial strategies developed and implemented by Tasracing are working for the benefit of the industry."
