SAf Stud Klawervlei Celebrates Royal Connection
John Koster, owner of the Klawervlei Stud in South Africa, will celebrate a special moment this new season when his beautifully bred and royally connected Sadler's Wells mare, Ebaraya, gives birth to a foal by the stud's leading stallion Captain Al, reports goldcircle.co.za.. "It's a wonderful family and hopefully Captain Al can inject some speed into the old girl," commented Koster. Ebaraya (Sadler's Wells-Ebaziya, by Darshaan), now 14 years-old, just happens to be a half-sister to the Queen's Royal Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate (Monsun-Ebaziya, by Darshaan) which has won 4 of 7 starts and is one of the most promising stayers in the UK. Koster purchased Ebaraya at Keeneland in 2007 for $US1 million but the deeds of Estimate and the family's other esteemed members suggest it is money well spent. Ebaraya already has a yearling filly on the ground by Distorted Humor, whom she was in foal to when sold. Although unraced, she obviously already has significant broodmare value. Ebaziya (Darshaan), the dam of both Estimate and Ebaraya, is an outstanding broodmare having produced 4 Gr1 winners, namely Enzeli (Kahyasi), who won the Ascot Gold Cup in 1999; Edabiya (Rainbow Quest), who won the Moyglare Stud Stakes; & Ebadiyla (Sadler's Wells), a full sister to Ebaraya, who won both the Gr1 Irish Oaks and Gr1 Prix Royal Oak. And if that wasn't impressive enough, Ebaraya also descends from one of the finest broodmares in the Stud Book, Frizette, ancestress of the legendary stallions Mr Prospector & Seattle Slew.
