SAf Stud Resists Attempts To Relocate Kingmambo Brother

Wednesday, 7th August 2013

South Africa's Varsfontein Stud has informed interested US buyers that first season sire sensation Judpot (A.P. Indy-Miesque, by Nureyev) is not for sale, reports goldcircle.co.za. The unraced 8YO stallion is a beautifully bred A.P. Indy half-brother to Gr1-winning champion sire Kingmambo (Mr Prospector), Gr1-winning French mare East Of The Moon (Private Account) & Gr3-winning sire Miesque's Son (Mr Prospector), among others. Judpot has achieved the rare feat of siring two Gr1 juvenile winners in his first crop. To put that into perspective, the legendary Sadler's Wells (to whom Judpot is coincidentally closely related) managed the feat but very few other stallions have, placing Judpot in elite company. "We consulted the Niarchos family, who own the other 50%, and they asked us what we wanted to do," explained Varsfontein's Manager Carl de Vos, who named Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky as one of the interested parties. "When we said that Judpot is the sort of stallion we dream about they replied that he is not going anywhere and that he is not for sale." De Vos added, "So far as we can tell no other stallion in South Africa has had two individual Gr1 2YO winners (Forest Indigo and Along Came Polly) and a Grade 2 winner (Colour Of Courage) from his first crop." Judpot's outstanding dam Miesque (Nureyev), the winner of 10 Gr1s including two Breeders' Cup Miles, has also produced Judpot's Gr3-winning full-brother Mingun and the stakes performers Moon Is Up & Inventing Paradise. Judpot stands at a fee of R25,000 with a live foal guarantee.
