Rosebud To Decide Sydney's Best 3YO
The clash of Sydney's best exposed 3YOs in the $100,000 Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick tomorrow is shaping as a more compelling contest than the race that precedes it, the Missile Stakes. The Rosebud brings together top 3YOs Eurozone, Bull Point & Watabout who will be using the race as a traditional lead-up to the $1 million Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 14. Stallion prospects Eurozone (Northern Meteor-Miss Vandal, by Don't Say Halo) and Bull Point (Fastnet Rock-Rose of Cimmaron, by Bite the Bullet) also have the sire-making Caulfield Guineas on their radar. The Bart Cummings-trained Eurozone, who is undefeated after two impressive wins, holds a 2-0 advantage over the highly touted Bull Point, but there is clearly very little separating the pair. But this is hardly a two-horse race, with Allan Denham's filly Watabout, carrying the orange & brown spotted silks of George Altomonte's Corumbene Stud, more than capable of beating the colts. The daughter of More Than Ready has looked like a class animal winning 3 of her 4 outings, none more so than at Randwick last-start when scoring by a facile 2-lengths. Among the others lining up is the Peter Moody-trained Dissident from Melbourne, Northern Glory & One Step Beyond, both by the ill-fated Northern Meteor.
