France Beckons For Dual Gr1 Oaks Runner-Up

Monday, 12th August 2013

Top class English mare Shirocco Star (Shirocco-Spectral Star, by Unfuwain) will contest the Gr1 Prix Jean Romanet (2000m) at Deauville next Sunday provided she gets conditions to suit, reports turftrax.com. Remarkably, the talented 4YO is yet to win at stakes level despite being runner-up in both the Gr1 English & Irish Oaks' last season and finishing third in the Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes behind Ambivalent at her most recent start. Indeed her only victory to date was in a Newbury maiden but trainer Hughie Morrison is hoping her luck will change when she ventures to France where he is seeking soft ground. "The plan is to go to France with her for the Romanet... on Sunday, but we just gave her the option at Salisbury (Upavon Fillies' Stakes on Wednesday) in case the ground was too quick," he explained. "I'm not sure what the ground is going to be like at Salisbury either, the forecast looks pretty settled, so we'll see. Everything has gone well since the Curragh, where the ground was a bit quick for her."
