NZB South Island Sale: NZ$50,000 Pins Colt
At the NZB South Island Sale of 2YOs & Mixed Bloodstock last Friday, a colt by Pins from the 2005/06 NZB Southern Filly of the Year winner Ombre Rose (O'Reilly-Lady Chanele, by Citidancer) was the highest-priced offering at NZ$50,000. Consigned by the Cambridge-based Phoenix Park, the colt was purchased by Joe Barnes, of J & I Bloodstock Ltd. Barnes indicated the colt would probably be heading to Hong Kong. "I came down to the Sale specifically to buy this horse as I've just returned from a trip to Hong Kong and they love Pins up there," Barnes commented. "He ticks all the boxes and we're very happy." The top priced filly was a daughter of Raise the Flag out of Emerald Fire who was purchased by John Foote Bloodstock for $40,000. She is destined for the Victorian stable of Darren Weir. The filly is a half-sister to dual Gr3 winner Inferno and 2011-12 Southern Filly of the Year winner Ortem Fire. This year's sale, comprising 84 lots, ended with an aggregate of NZ$592,400 and an average of NZ$10,041. The clearance rate was a pleasing 78 percent.
