Champion SAf Mare Goes Out A Winner

Tuesday, 13th August 2013

Top class South African mare Princess Victoria (Victory Moon-Platinum Princess, by Rakeen) has been retired after winning the Gr3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Kenilworth on Saturday, reports goldcircle.co.za. The Glen Kotzen-trained 5YO, who was crowned Equus Champion filly in both her 2YO & 3YO seasons, won 10 of her 18 starts including 4 Gr1s, namely the Allan Robertson Championship, the Greyville Golden Slipper, Kenilworth Cape Fillies Guineas, and the Garden Province Stakes. Fittingly, Princess Victoria was partnered in her swansong by Andrew Fortune, the jockey who rode her to her two Gr1s as a 2YO. She will be retired to Maine Chance Farms, who own her in partnership with Peter de Beyer, where she is likely to be covered by recently crowned champion stallion Silvano.
