Travers Stakes To Determine Top US 3YO

Tuesday, 13th August 2013

With spoils evenly shared this year, the Gr1 Travers (10 furlongs) at Saratoga on Aug 24 could determine America's best 3YO, reports horseracingnation.com's Brian Zipse. Zipse contends that with the majority of the country's premier 3YOs taking part, this year's renewal of the Travers could decide which horse is crowned US champion 3YO male. Kentucky Derby winner Orb, Belmont Stakes & Gr2 Jim Dandy winner Palace Malice, & the once-defeated Verrazano are the leading contenders, especially with Preakness winner Oxbow missing from the line-up. Classy More Than Ready colt Verrazano cold be the one however, having won 6 of his 7 starts including a brilliant last-start victory in the Gr1 Haskell Invitational. But whichever 3YO happens to claim the Eclipse award the Travers promises to be something special.
