First Redwood Foal Born In New Zealand

Thursday, 15th August 2013

The first foal of Gr1-winning High Chaparral stallion Redwood (High Chaparral-Arum Lily, by Woodman) was born at Westbury Stud in New Zealand on Monday, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The foal is a colt from the stakes-placed Danzero mare Primera Dama (Danzero-Velita, by Balmerino), a half-sister to stakes winner Enjoy Dancing. Westbury Stud general manager Russell Warwick commented, "He is a nice colt, with plenty of leg, and boasts his father's good looks." The Juddmonte Farms-owned Redwood, a half-brother to Gr3 runner-up Perennial (Motivator), won 4 of his 17 starts including victories in the Gr1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine & the Gr3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood. Redwood will stand this season at a fee of NZ$12,500 + gst.
