Al Kazeem Likely To Bypass Gr1 Arc

Friday, 16th August 2013

The connections of star UK galloper Al Kazeem (Dubawi - Kazeem, by Darshaan) have revealed they may bypass Europe's weight-for-age championship the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in preference for the Champion Stakes at Ascot, reports theguardian.com. The three-time Gr1 winner, who will step out in the Juddmonte International at York next Wednesday, is well fancied for the Arc but trainer Roger Charlton says no firm plans have been made at this stage. "I think it's not definite that he's going to go for the Arc… we'll just keep all the options open," explained Charlton. "I suppose, in theory, if you had to choose one race where he has the better chance, you'd say he's got a better chance in the Champion Stakes." The Gr1 Champion Stakes is one of 5 feature races on Britain's richest race day of the year, QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot on October 19. Al Kazeem currently shares favouritism (3-1) for the Champion Stakes with Richard Hannon's brilliant 3YO Toronado but the latter is an unlikely runner.
