De Kock Books Dettori For Nunthorpe Ride

Friday, 16th August 2013

South African trainer Mike de Kock has booked champion jockey Frankie Dettori to ride favourite Shea Shea in the Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes (5 furlongs) at York next Friday, reports racingpost.com. De Kock engaged Dettori, who has won the race three times, after the horse's regular rider Christophe Soumillon was ruled out through suspension. "Christophe Soumillon was due to take the ride as usual, but he picked up a suspension in France and failed on appeal," explained de Kock. "We're fortunate to have Frankie available to stand in." Shea Shea was last seen in action when finishing a creditable fourth in the July Cup but De Kock is confident the Nunthorpe will be more to his liking. "He's doing well, his coat looks good and he should be at his best for the race… it's an easier five furlongs than the one at Ascot where he was beaten late by Sole Power, so we're hoping it will suit him perfectly."
