Fleur De Lune In Foxbridge Title Defence

Friday, 16th August 2013

Gr1 winner Fleur de Lune (Stravinsky-Kapsjoy, by Kaapstad) will launch her spring campaign in tomorrow's Gr3 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 6YO mare will be bidding for back-to-back victories in the Foxbridge after defeating Fritzy Boy & Xanadu last year, both of whom re-oppose tomorrow. Trainer Lee Somervell says Fleur de Lune "has come up really well" and is expecting a forward showing. "She's a mare that takes a bit of managing, as she doesn't have the greatest joints, so we use the water walker quite a bit, but she's flying at the moment and I've been really pleased with her two exhibitions gallops heading into Saturday." Somervell added, "It's a terrific field and I thought Xanadu looked magnificent when galloping between races at Te Aroha last week. Our mare's not very big (15.1hh) but she's all heart, and will be giving her best on Saturday as usual."
