Qatar Bloodstock Off The Mark In Australia
Qatar Bloodstock has opened its account in Australia in the form of impressive staying filly Driving Louise (Bernardini-Grand Journey, by Good Journey), successful in yesterday's Porter Plant Maiden Plate (1600m) at Ballarat, reports racingvictoria.net.au. Sheikh Fahad Al Thani's Qatar Racing was catapulted onto the Australian racing scene with the victory of Dunaden in the 2011 Gr1 Melbourne Cup and Driving Louise is part of an outfit of Australian-bred gallopers assembled by the global powerhouse. Trainer Robert Smerdon commented on the win and his association with Qatar Bloodstock, "They've got a few horses here, a couple with me, a couple with Peter Moody, they've got them all around the place, and [Driving Louise] broke their duck, so it's good ... She's just taken a while to get it together ... With that pedigree she's got stamina both sides, so we're just expecting her to improve with a bit more age and a bit more ground."
