Qatar Influence Now Extends To Historic Irish Stud

Friday, 16th August 2013

The historic Kilfrush Stud in County Limerick, Ireland, is the latest high profile acquisition by racing interests in the small Persian Gulf state of Qatar, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The 300-acre Kilfrush Stud, famous for producing Gr1 stars such as Immortal Verse & Last Tycoon, has been sold to David Ryan of Aran Bloodstock on behalf of a Qatari client. Kilfrush recently sold all of its bloodstock, reportedly totalling 30 horses, including Coronation Stakes & Prix Jacques Le Marois heroine Immortal Verse, to Americans John Moores & Charles Noell. The decision to sell its operations is believed to be due to the death of a major Kilfrush shareholder last year. Managing director Brendan Hayes commented, "Kilfrush is a farm with a great pedigree for producing winners and a truly beautiful one too." He added, "I would like to wish the buyers luck and success in their new venture over the coming years."
