NZ's David Ellis Buys First European Yearling

Monday, 19th August 2013

Meanwhile, NZ Te Akau principal David Ellis purchased his first yearling on European soil, when going to €70,000 for a Fastnet Rock colt out of Magnolia Lane at Arqana's Deauville Sale, according to NZ Racing Desk. The leading individual buyer of yearlings for the past eight years at the New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sales Series, Ellis's purchase is out of a sister to British superstar Yeats who won the Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup (4023m) on four consecutive occasions among his seven individual Gr1 triumphs. Eliis commented that the colt reminded him of Rock 'n' Pop who he purchased and syndicated to win the 2011 New Zealand Gr1 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton, and who now stands as a freshman sire at Waikato Stud.
