Gosden Duo In Good Spirits Ahead Of York
UK jockey Rab Havlin is looking forward to this week's Ebor carnival at York with two genuine chances at Gr1 glory, reports racingpost.com. Havlin believes both John Gosden-trained gallopers are in fine fettle ahead of their respective feature race assignments and is hoping the stable's recent good form continues. The Fugue (Dansili-Twyla Tharp, by Sadler's Wells) lines up in Thursday's Gr1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks (12 furlongs) while sprinter Swiss Spirit (Invincible Spirit-Swiss Lake, by Indian Ridge) contests Friday's Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes (5 furlongs). Speaking about The Fugue, Havlin commented, "She has the class, being unlucky not to have won an Oaks, and if the ground is fast she could show the turn of foot that won her a Nassau." The understudy to William Buick is also keen on the chances of Swiss Spirit which was unlucky last time out at Goodwood. "He got bumped upon leaving the stalls in the Temple Stakes and didn't get a clear run in the King George Stakes," added Havlin. "It has to be his turn soon."
