Mount Athos Melbourne Campaign Confirmed

Tuesday, 20th August 2013

And with early Melbourne Cup interest beginning to wind up, racingnetwork.com.au reports this morning that Luca Cumani intends to bring big-striding Mount Athos back to Australia for another tilt at the big 2-miler. The victim of scrimmaging in the recent Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot that was marred by the tragic death of the winner Thomas Chippendale after the finish line, Mount Athos finished fifth in last year's Melbourne Cup, and Cumani believes the son of Montjeu is the horse who could elevate him as the trainer of two runners-up (Bauer & Purple Moon). Confirmed as a definite for this year's Carnival, Mount Athos could start in Goodwood's March Stakes over the weekend.
