Admire Rakti To Miss Cup

Wednesday, 21st August 2013

Japanese stayer Admire Rakti (Heart's Cry-Admire Teresa, by Helissio) has been ruled out of the Melbourne Cup, reports horseracing.com.au. The 5YO son of Sunday Silence stallion Heart's Cry would have been the first Japanese horse to compete in the Melbourne Cup since Delta Blues & Pop Rock finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 2006 edition of the Cup. The connections of Admire Rakti accepted an invitation from Racing Victoria (RV) in May to participate in this year's Caulfield & Melbourne Cups but will now miss both races. "The owner of Admire Ratki has now decided not to come down which is a bit unfortunate," revealed RV International Recruitment Officer Leigh Jordan. "We have struggled with the Japanese since they quinelled the race back in 2006," he continued. "We had equine influenza for a few years that knocked them out and since they have been able to come back we have really only had Tokai Trick (12th behind Americain in the 2010 Melbourne Cup) come and participate." Admire Rakti is the winner of 6 from 20 starts with his most recent victory being the Gr3 Tokyo Diamond Stakes (3400m) in February.
