SAf KZN 2YO Sale: Average Rises 40%

Friday, 23rd August 2013

The recently completed Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale in South Africa posted impressive gains across the board on 2012 figures. The aggregate of R26,260,000 was up 28 per cent from last year's total (R20,455,000) while the average of R99,294 was up a staggering 40 per cent from 2012. The clearance rate was an excellent 81 per cent. The highest-priced offering was lot 286, a colt by champion sire Silvano whose 3rd dam, Soho Secret, was champion broodmare in 1995. Consigned by the Gary Player Stud Farm, the beautifully bred colt was knocked down to KZN trainer Dennis Drier for R1 million. Bloodstock South Africa CEO Tom Callaghan commented, "Wow! The National 2yo sale has never been this strong. This sale was a very positive one for our industry, and I am absolutely ecstatic about the results."
