Americain Parades At Swettenham
In Victoria, champion stayer Americain (Dynaformer-America, by Arazi) made his first public appearance in Australia since competing in last year's Melbourne Cup at Swettenham's stallion parade on Sunday. The 2010 Melbourne Cup winner arrived at Swettenham last week after serving his initial northern hemisphere book at Calumet Farm in Kentucky. Not surprisingly, the son of top US stallion Dynaformer is proving extremely popular with broodmare owners having already attracted 144 mares at his $13,750 service fee. But those owners who don't want to miss the boat should hurry. "There are only about 20 to 30 bookings left this season," Swettenham owner Adam Sangster said. "Americain was a superior stayer with a sensational turn of foot and he will be an asset to the Victorian breeding industry. He's from the same sireline as Red Ransom and his damsire Arazi was a Champion 2YO. There are over 170 stakes winners under his first five dams." As highlighted in Breeding&Racing's '2013 Freshman Sire Special' by Peter Mullen, Americain possesses a pedigree that does lend itself to precocity, particularly given he won his only start as a 2YO in France over 1400m.
