Waller Human After All

Tuesday, 27th August 2013

When Sydney's record-breaking trainer Chris Waller accepted with a half-dozen runners for last Saturday's Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm, punters might have been wishing that Australian racing had the stable coupling rule – that is, where all runners from one stable are bracketed together as one runner no matter which one is selected. Given Waller's impeccable form, the average racing fan would have backed London to a brick-on that at least one of his sextet would fill a first three placing. History will show that Waller is, after all, human, with all six failing to run a drum, not that the outcome would have had the unflappable conditioner miss a beat as evidenced by his 16 early nominations for Sydney's Gr1 Epsom Handicap, and 11 noms for the Gr1 Metropolitan. Both races received 105 entries each.
