Baker: It's A Dundeel The Best

Wednesday, 28th August 2013

NZ trainer Murray Baker has labelled It's A Dundeel (High Chaparral-Stareel, by Zabeel) as the best 3YO he has ever trained ahead of his return in the Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. "He's the only horse to have ever won the Gloaming, the Spring Champion, the Randwick Guineas, the Rosehill Guineas and the Australian Derby and he won the New South Wales Horse of the Year," Baker said. "He's probably the best horse I've ever had." That places It's A Dundeel ahead of some high calibre gallopers such as The Phantom, Lion Tamer, Nom du Jeu & Eagle Eye. "They were all terrific performers," commented the Cambridge horseman, "but this horse has done it all in Australia and that's the benchmark." It's A Dundeel, whose ultimate spring target is the Cox Plate in October, will struggle to replicate the 1990 Memsie success of The Phantom according to Baker. "I'd be very surprised if he could win the race over 1400 metres first-up in such a hot field," he said.
