Libertarian Seeks St Leger Redemption
Talented UK colt Libertarian (New Approach-Intrum Morshaan, by Darshaan) is reportedly progressing well ahead of next month's English St Leger at Doncaster, reports racingpost.com. The 3YO, who was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed following his second placing in this year's English Derby, will be bidding to become Goldolphin's 7th winner of the classic. Libertarian missed the Great Voltigeur at York last week but trainer Charlie Appleby has been pleased with his subsequent work. "Libertarian has had a nice break since the Irish Derby," Appleby said. "We spoke about going to the Voltigeur but we wanted to give him more of a break. With the way the ground was, I am glad we didn't go. He's progressing well and coming on nicely for the Leger." Meanwhile, Great Voltigeur winner Telescope is far from a certain starter in the St Leger, for which he is favourite, with Highclere Thoroughbreds' Harry Herbert revealing on Monday, "I wouldn't be at all convinced about him staying the mile and six at Doncaster, and my gut feeling would probably be that the Leger is unlikely."
