MRC Looks To Go Out With A Bang
Starting with the Memsie Stakes on Saturday, the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) is looking at implementing a radical new policy during the Spring of having a Gr1 event as the final race on the card. According to fairfax.com.au, the decision has generally been well received by the industry. MRC chief executive Brodie Arnhold explained the rationale behind the concept: ''We're looking to do it all spring carnival, a feature Gr1 to end each day. There's some really compelling data in terms of turnover in that timeslot to say that it is worth giving it a go. Look at greyhounds and the terrific growth in market share they have had in that timeslot. We need to have a presence there." Arnhold revealed that the move was not driven purely by economic considerations and that Caulfield track manager Jason Kerr had been widely consulted.
