Trainer Sees Positive in Fleur De Lune's Bad Draw
Top New Zealand mare Fleur de Lune (Stravinsky-Kapsjoy, by Kaapstad) has drawn the outside barrier for Saturday's NZ$200,000 Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Hastings, but trainer Lee Somervell is viewing it as an advantage, reports NZ Racing Desk. "There's no way we can get caught on the fence and she doesn't mind the rain," explained Somervell in relation to Fleur de Lune's number 20 gate. The 6YO Gr1 winner, who was placed behind King Mufhasa & Jimmy Choux in the 2011 edition of the Makfi, had no luck first-up in the Gr3 Foxbridge Plate when finishing 7th. "For the first time in her whole career she missed the start and once she got back it was always going to be extremely difficult," Somervell said.
