No Australian Trip For Survived

Tuesday, 3rd September 2013

The winner of last Saturday's Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Hastings, Survived (Zed-Liberal, by Generous), will bypass the lucrative Melbourne spring carnival and instead remain in New Zealand, reports NZ Racing Desk. Trainer John Bary, who is conscious of the fact the 4YO gelding has already travelled to Australia once this year, prefers a local campaign. "He's only a lightly-raced horse and I took him across to Brisbane in the winter for the Derby so he's had a big year," explained Bary. "He's very smart, but to head to Melbourne at this time of the year they need to be tough and mentally strong and he just may not be ready for that yet." Survived will bid to win the Hawke's Bay triple crown with the remaining legs being the Gr1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m) on September 21 and the Gr1 Spring Classic (2040m) on October 5.
